Opacities
Opacities is a sound composition consisting of glass and crystal commissioned by percussionist Magdalena Meitzner in 2022. Durata 20 min.
The piece consists of thin glass plates in various sizes prepared with contact microphones (built by artist Jez Riley) and broken and crushed glass, marbles and crystal objects. I was inspired by both the fragility and delicacy of the material as well as its sharpness and transparency.
I collected a big amount of glass object and researched the material for a longer time to come to the final set up and instrument sculpture. Then followed a period of more research of sound possibilities and contemporary and extended playing techniques together with Magdalena.
The piece was premiered 12 of May 2024 at Swedish History Museum in Stockholm in a production by the organisation Samtida Musik.
